Marthina Brandt wins Miss Brazil 2015

23-year-old Marthina Brandt who represented Miss Rio Grande do Sul was crowned Miss Brazil 2015 at the end of the national pageant held at Citibank Hall in São Paulo on Wednesday, November 18. She will will travel to Las Vegas, USA to represent Brazil at Miss Universe 2015 pageant on December 20.
The newly crowned queen bested 26 other beauties to succeed last year's winner, Melissa Gurgel who finished as a finalist at Miss Universe 2014. 



The runners-up are Miss Santa Catarina, Sabrina Meyer (2nd place) and Miss São Paulo, Jéssica Voltolini Vilela (3rd place). Miss Mato Grosso, Camilla Della Valle and Rio Grande do Norte, Manoella Alves completed the Top 5 finalists.


The first crown won by Brazil was by Ieda Maria Vargas in the year 1963.  The second crown was won by Martha Vasconcellos in the year 1968. Brazil has finished as the first runner-up for 5 times – the years were 1954, 1957, 1958, 1972 and 2007.  The last time Brazil finished 2nd in Miss Universe was in the year 2007 when Natalia Guimaraes was 1st runner-up.  Last year’s Miss Brazil Melissa Gurgel also made it to the Top 15 in the Miss Universe edition that took place in January 2015 in Doral Islands.  In the past 20 years, Brazil has made the Top 15 for 8 times, out of which 4 times they were in the Top 5. Can Marthina Brandt be the third Miss Universe from Brazil?
